How to track teachers’ working hours

A timetable tells you when you teach, but it does not capture planning, grading, meetings or messages outside class. A personal time record can reveal the full shape of your week.

Start with useful categories

Separate lessons, planning, grading or marking, meetings and other work. Add more categories only when you need that detail in a report. TeacherTime supports timers and manual entries, so a missed task can be added later.

Include work outside school hours

Think about preparation at home, marking at weekends and short conversations or administrative tasks. Record the work you want to understand, using a consistent rule of your own. The best system is one you can keep using through a busy term.

Review the whole week

Weekly totals and category breakdowns show where your time goes. You can compare recorded hours with a target you set in a suitable model. This comparison helps with personal understanding; it is not a legal determination of overtime.
